The darkness hangs over Kelvan as he peruses the maps and gets a summary of the plans for the mission.  His mind appears elsewhere as the cleric speaks to him and after Raiffen asks for group consensus, Kelvan walks towards the door.
"At daybreak we will leave.  Rest well, for tomorrow we will risk our lives for whatever purpose you justify.  I will meet you at the gates, and if you show late, you should be able to follow the tracks in this virgin snow.  If anyone needs me, I will be in the chapel...praying for forgiveness for the lives I will soon be taking."

Dhakwan simply nods in agreement.  He stands and leaves the room to enjoy what maybe his final night.

Pelic yells "Let us go forth and conquer!!!"  Pelic then gets up and exclaims "til the morn!"  He then proceeds to check in on Gork and purchases the finest cut of steak he can find for his companion... and one for himself.

Sometime after dinner, Kelvan relays some information to those who remain in the barracks.  Soon after an alarm bell can be heard clanging outside.  You begin to hear the clamor of armored men and horses moving about, and calling out words you cannot quite make out.  Grady raises an eyebrow curiously trying to discern what is going on.   "Has there been a breach? I wonder if they bandits have been spotted inside the walls again??  Quick, lets gather ourselves and give aid!"

Telemacus rolls out of bed, pulls on his boots, grabs his weapons, and heads to Kelvan to assist with his armor. "the only real problem with heavy armor.....You can't sleep in it and it takes forever to put on" he muses while helping. Waiting til the other are ready Telemacus helps where he is needed.

sitting up quickly in bed and pulling his heavy boots on, Kelvan winks at Telemacus as he pulls on his gambeson.  Buckling the armor on quickly with the help of his quick fingered assistant, Kelvan straps his bastard sword over his shoulder and securing his shield to his right arm.
"C'mon guys, maybe someone's in trouble...Hey, where is Dharkwan?  Did he slip out when we were donning this mail?"

Two minutes pass and the alarm bell finally ceases, but you can still make out the scramble of voices, stomping feet of armored men, and the clatter of horse hooves.

Coming to an abrupt halt at the door, Kelvan slumps his shoulders and sighs, "Let's let the Abbot's men handle this one.  It's only curfew enforcement and we have a long day ahead of us tomorrow."
With that, Kelvan begins taking off his armor again, and once, back into bed looks over to Telemacus, "It's amazing how quickly one can get roused at the oddest situations.  I will see you all tomorrow.  Get some rest men."

"Rest? How can you rest at a time like this??  For all we know the bandits could have breached the walls!  They could be desecrating our town as we speak!  Should we not at least investigate?" Grady exclaims excitedly as he stuffs a few books and prayer beads into his pack.   "What better place to face the bandit king than within our own walls?" he adds.

Quickly standing and blocking thedoor with his massive frame, Kelvan leans down and whispers into Grady's ear.  Making eye contact, the large man asks, "you understand?"  He then returns to his bed and blows out the candle on his nightstand.

Grady's zeal for investigating the situation fades after Kelvan speaks to him.  "ahem, well then.  Yes.. perhaps we should go to sleep.. Perhaps my excitement to catch that scoundrel was clouding my judgement.  Very well."

With that he begins to unpack his things and settle back into his bunk, his attention stolen every time a loud shout or clatter can be heard outside.

Glaring up at the vaulted ceiling, Kelvan could feel the cool contrast of early winter air on his face to the comfortable warmth of the fur blanket upon his body.  Straining to hear the faintest of sounds, his thoughts wandered to a life that seemed to be so long in the past.
"The King has been killed!"  The sound echos through Kelvan's mind as he remembered the fateful night.  His half asleep body rushing to the personal chambers, His mind reeled at the slumped over form of the dead king of Cormyr.  His skin discolored and arms limp, Kelvan could only think of the jovial mood he witnessed at his side not half a day ago during the spring festivities.  Returning to his barracks, he wondered who could have done anything like that to such a generous and benevolent man.  A tear came to his eye as he reminisced over conversations and times shared with him as he rose in the ranks and became a court guard.  There were so few good people in the world, that whenever one was taken like this, it made it seem that the heart of the world skipped a beat in time for their absence.

Eventually the ruckus outside subsides and you are left with a peaceful night, hearing nothing more than the moan of the winter wind outside.   You eventually fall asleep with thoughts of your quest dancing about your mind.

Morning comes, and those not awake before Grady are soon disturbed of their sleep by the eager man.  He has a morning meal brought in, which you partake, then prepare for your adventure.
